Haider Ajina: Good news from Iraq
Contributed by Bill Faith

The latest from Haider:

Greetings,

The following is my translation of news from Voices of Iraq on 10/24/07

Sectarian violence declines 70%

Iraqi Commander of operation in Baghdad announced that sectarian violence has declined 70% in Baghdad over the last 8 months and Iraqi forces will take over 50% of Baghdad’s security by years end.

Brigadier Abood Qanbar announced in a joint pres conference with General Raymond Odierno. ‘The number of sectarian violence incidences has declined 70%, car bombs declined 65% since the start of operation rule of law (the surge) in Mid February’. Qanbar added, ‘Violent incidences against civilians have declined 59%, against Iraqi forces have declined 62%, against journalist have declined 70%, in the months after implementing operation Rule of Law, by the Iraqi defense ministry, with cooperation from the interior ministry and support from the Multi National Forces (MNF), as of the end of September.’

Qanbar presented data showing the decline in violence as well as the decline in physical damage done by car bombs. Damage due to car bombs has declined 81% and decline in civilian wounded was 80%. Iraqi forces have conducted operations in Al-Fadhil district in Baghdad from September 17 until October 12. This resulted in the deaths of 48 terrorists and the return of 58 families to their homes’.

U.S. General Odierno of MNF-Iraq said’ “Iraqi forces are ready to take over security responsibility for ½ of Baghdad by the end of the year. MNF have developed 34 security centers all over Baghdad, which will be gradually turned over to the Iraqis. MNF will continue to train Iraqi security forces so they may eventually take over security.  Odierno credited the decline in bombings and violence in Baghdad to agreements and accords reached all over Baghdad.

And from Iraq’s Nahrian on 10-24-07:

Muslims demonstrate at UN Geneva headquarters against Takfiries, and Wahabis.

The world now knows of the Takfiries and Wahabi crimes in Iraq today and 9-11 in the USA and Spain and Britain and many other places. It brings us extreme sorrow that the UN has not issued any resolution criminalizing this Takfiri and Wahabi Nazi like movement and stopping it spreading its ideas of sectarianism, no respect for life or human rights. We are also saddened to see the Saudi government not taking new stances to prevent the spread of the Wahabi Takfiri ideas as well as their fatwa’s on their media, Mosques, universities and religious centers in the Kingdom and elsewhere. Ibin Jubrien and his ilk continue issuing fatwas to spill innocent blood and destroy places of worship of all who do not share the Wahabi Takfiri beliefs.

We feel responsibility to speak out as Muslims who love Islam and defend human rights to call on all who are free to stand with us at the UN headquarters in Geneva to request the UN and the Security Council to live up to their legal and moral responsibility (while we hope that they will) and fulfill our requests.

Our request:

In the name of Muslims who love Islam and defend human rights and all who are free in this world, we request the UN and the Security Council the following adopt the following:

1-  Criminalize and prevent the Wahabi Takfiri movement. Because it is no different from the negative effect the Nazi movement had on society.

2- Adopt laws to prevent the Takfiri movement and withdraw all their privileges in all countries. Because Takfiries are movements which spread terrorism, hatred, animosity and sectarianism. As well as recruit and train terrorists and send them to the world hot spots such as Iraq and other areas to kill the innocent, women and children.

3-  Create an International tribunal to which these Takfiris and those who issue Fatwa’s to kill can be taken. Such as Ibin Jabrien and to demand that the Saudi government fully co-operate.

4-   Request the politicians, the Media and all civil societies not accept these Takfiries as Representing Islam especially since Muslims are their first and largest victims.

Signed the Samara protest group Europe.

My comments:

Good news from Iraq is beginning to trickle through the mass media. Operation rule of law or the surge is having solid measurable positive results. The surge is not only defeating terror and sectarianism it is also instilling unity, ownership, self-confidence and the rule of law in Iraqi society. Hope (which was never lost amongst Iraqis) is the strongest I am seeing, reading and hearing since our liberation of Iraq in 2003. Iraq’s different sects, religions and races are returning to the harmony in which they lived before the Baathist and Takfiri disturbances. Iraqi security is becoming stronger, more confidant and most of all receiving the support of the average citizen. They are doing this while respecting the rule of law and serving their citizens, thanks to our training and relentless hard work of our men and women in Iraq.

Free Muslims in Europe, and in more moderate countries with large Muslim populations, are speaking out loudly condemning and demanding that Takfiries and Hirabah be criminalized, perused and brought to justice. I have been reading about demonstrations against Takfiries and their terrorist murderous ways by Muslims in Morocco, Algeria, Libya (surprisingly), Gulf states, Pakistan and of course Iraq and India (India’s has the second largest population of Muslims in the world, 175 million almost 20% of Indians are Muslim).

U.S. forces hand over security for Kirkuk to Iraqi Army
Contributed by Bill Faith

Greetings,

The following is my translation of a headline and article from the Iraqi news agency of September 1.

‘U.S. forces hand over security for Kirkuk to Iraqi Army’,

“U.S. forces handed over security responsibility to of Kirkuk city to the Iraqi army during military ceremonies on Thursday August 31. These ceremonies took in military fort twenty kilometers north western Kirkuk. The ceremonies were followed by a speech from the U.S. commander David Kary of the U.S. forces in Kirkuk. He commended the Iraqi forces for their fight against terrorist in the area. Kary said; ‘The Iraqi army will now receive responsibility for security of Kirkuk. They have proven capable of keeping security with out assistance from the multi national forces’. Iraqi General Anwar Hammeh Amien praised the multi national forces for their training of the Iraqi army to take over security control of the city’. He added; ’Now the Iraqi army can depend on it self to protect the boarders and city residences, we will need help from the multi national forces, in the areas of intelligence, air support, and artillery, in fighting and defeating terrorist in large operations’.

My comments,
Another important area in northern Iraq is handed over to the Iraqi military (whom we trained). This is almost a weekly event. Soon Thiqar province in the south will fall under provincial control just like Muthena province. Iraqis are being trained by us and the British and are ready, willing, and able to take over security responsibility for their own country. Of course, they only take over after they graduate training and prove themselves. Iraqi security philosophy has to be completely wiped clean from the old methods of Saddam and the old Russian training. They then have to be indoctrinated to respect the law, and serve and protect civilians they are to serve. It has been a long process to move the Iraqi security apparatus from the old ‘dominate and oppress’ philosophy to that of serve and protect. The Average Iraqi is also having to learn that the Iraqi security forces can be trusted, that they will serve and protect. Early and soon after the liberation, and after the Iraqis figured out that we are there to stay till the job is completed, Iraqis were coming to our military with information, but not to the Iraqi security. Now, and for some time, Iraqis are going to their own security forces with information. This is a fundamental change in the relationship between citizens and their security forces in Iraq. This is also a unique relationship in the Arab world. It is one I am sure other Arabs will want to have with their security forces.

Reutergate 5 -- And the beatdown goes on
(Updated and bumped)

Continued from Reutergate 4

Breaking: Reuters pulls all 920 of Adnan Hajj’s photos
Allahpundit

As an, ahem, “precautionary” measure, while they investigate.

‘Twas Rusty killed the beast:

Reuters ended its relationship with Hajj on Sunday after it found that a photograph he had taken of the aftermath of an Israeli air strike on suburban Beirut had been manipulated using Photoshop software to show more and darker smoke rising from buildings.

An immediate enquiry began into Hajj’s other work.

It established on Monday that a photograph of an Israeli F-16 fighter over Nabatiyeh, southern Lebanon and dated Aug 2, had also been doctored to increase the number of flares dropped by the plane from one to three.

Institutional Failure at Reuters
By Thomas Lifson

Though I am five thousand miles away, I think that I can detect the vibrations emanating from West Norwood Cemetery in London. For surely Paul Julius Reuter, the German rabbi's son who founded the Reuters News Agency a century and a half ago, is spinning in his grave.

Saddam era intelligence service
documents reveal connection with Bin Ladin

Contributed by Bill Faith

Greetings,

The following is my translation of a headline and article from the July 8th Pan Arab news paper ‘Asharq Alawsat’

‘Saddam era intelligence service
documents reveal connection with Bin Ladin.’

Baghdad by Maa’d Fiaz.

Documents found in files belonging to former Iraqi intelligence reveal connections between Saddam’s regime and Usamah Bin Ladin, head of Alqaida. These files are held and kept by the ‘Iraqi Diary Association’, which is an independent non-governmental association founded and directed by Dr. Kannen Makiah.

The files and document viewed by Asharq Alawsat contained details of Iraqi intelligence operations in London and Khartoum to attain what they called Saudi resistance or Saudi objectionists before it describes relationships between Iraqi intelligence and Usamah Bin Ladin.

My comments,

I have read this news in Asharq Alawsat (a pan Arab paper) and Karbala News (an Iraqi paper). This comes as no surprise to me and many Iraqi I speak to. There is copy of the document (in Arabic) in the following link. http://www.karbalanews.net/artc.php?id=3207
