After six days of national mourning, our long national nightmare is about to begin.  Nancy Pelosi plans to ascend to the speaker’s throne with a 100 hour flurry of liberal legislative initiatives, while Republicans are faced with the task of determining how they will limit her tenure to the 100 weeks that follow. 

In another time, I would applaud what appears to be a perfect opportunity for beltway gridlock.  The “libertarian” that lives inside me believes that the best laws are the ones that stay in committee.  Unfortunately, I see too much opportunity and willingness on the part of Senate Republicans and the President to either compromise or, in some cases, gladly join the Democrats on issues that did not gain a satisfactory resolution under House Republican control.
